The congregation of the United Reformed Church (URC) Heckmondwike (formerly Upper Independent Chapel), have been busy knitting and making poppies to commemorate 100 years since the end of World War One on 11 November 1918.
There are 23 local men remembered on the war memorial in front of the church. During November the church has set aside and decorated 23 chairs, one for each of the fallen.
Also on permanent display in the church are memorial boards from George Street and Westgate Congregational Chapels (which both closed a number of years ago and amalgamated with Heckmondwike).
URC Heckmondwike, High St, WF16 0DY will be open and welcomes visitors to view the commemorative displays from 6.00pm – 7.30pm on Friday 9 November and 10.00am – 4.00pm on Saturday 10 November 2018. No booking is necessary and refreshments will be available.
If any groups are interested in visiting the displays during the month of November please phone or text 07756 869 893or email churchsecretaryHURC@hotmail.com when we will try to accommodate your request.
